If there ever was an iconic Milken alumni couple, it is Hannah Low ‘13 and Sam Kaplan ‘13. Their special bond, rooted in their friendship cultivated by their time at Milken and beyond, began when Hannah moved to Los Angeles during her sophomore year of high school. Little did she know, her new journey at Milken would introduce her to her soulmate just a year later.
After going out for some time in high school, forming a friendship, and attending prom together (which resulted in some seriously adorable pictures), Sam went on to attend the University of Miami and Hannah made the move to Case Western Reserve University. Despite the newfound 1,248 miles between them, the two would soon find their way back to one another!
In their junior year of college, the couple entered a new chapter in their love story. Both Hannah and Sam decided to study abroad - Sam heading to London, and Hannah to Copenhagen. They excitedly reconnected over this shared new journey, and made plans to travel together during their time abroad. The couple also noted that they even met up with our very own Director of Alumni Relations, Ross D. Mankuta, and traveled to Milan and Cinque Terre together!
It was when visiting Nice, France, their final destination, that the two finally shared their feelings for one another, built on a strong and beautiful connection of friendship and shared values. That day is now their anniversary…and the rest is history!
A fun fact about Sam and Hannah’s story is the role that Ross played in their union. According to the happy couple, “he deserves all the credit!” Fate would have it that during their time at Milken, Ross was not only Hannah’s College Counselor and Advisor, but had a close bond with the Kaplan family. What started out as a mentorship with students grew into a friendship as Sam and Hannah became alumni. The three have remained the best of friends to this day!
After graduating from college, both Sam and Hannah felt a great passion about making the move to Washington D.C. After Hannah headed out there to join a service program, Sam followed her footsteps and joined her two weeks later. Fast forward to 2023, the couple is engaged, and continue to live in D.C. with their adorable puppy, Beanie!
Sam is currently the Manager of Basketball Strategy and Analytics for the Washington Wizards, and Hannah is a Perinatal Care Coordinator at Community of Hope. The couple continues to lead their lives with the values inspired by the strong Jewish foundation they both shared throughout their time at Milken, which is so important to them as they build a life and community together.
Mazel Tov, Sam and Hannah! We are so proud and excited for you two to begin this new chapter of your journey together!
