Head Water Polo Coach

POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Athletic Director, and the Head of Athletics, the Head Water Polo coach provides leadership and direction to help mold the Water Polo program while adhering to Milken Community School rules and regulations. The Head Water Polo Coach must support the student-athlete concept and demonstrate concern for the health, safety, and welfare of each student-athlete. They must support, encourage, and monitor student-athletes’ academic progress. Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide overall leadership for the Milken Community School water polo program and perform all services thereof as scheduled and/or directed by the Athletic Director. 
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 
  • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises. 
  • Work with the Athletic Director to develop a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Assesses player’s skills and monitors players during competition and practice.
  • Determines game strategy to ensure success in competition.
  • Supervises athletes during practices and competition. 
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. 
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. 
  • Responsible for the use, care, storage and inventory of all Milken athletic equipment issued for use by the athletic program including, but not limited to balls, lines and all other equipment necessary for practice and games/matches. 
  • Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, and award nights.
  • Performs support tasks such as maintaining eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. 
  • Adhere to all rules, regulations and policies as mandated by the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) and Milken Community School. 
  • Promote the sport with students, alumni, and members of the community. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. 
 
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of head water polo coaching experience. 
  • Experience with student programs in a high school setting. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. 
  • Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the specified sports program.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. 
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. 

SALARY RANGE: $8,000-$10,000 for season
