Students Answer Powerful Question

Humanities class addresses the question, "Why am I here?" as part of their unit on the Universe of Obligation.
7th grade students in Mrs. Nitzkin's Humanities class have been studying the concepts of identity: individual/society, we/they, and us/them. They explored the construct of community by looking at the hierarchy of caring (care most about self, then family/best friends, then teachers/school, etc.) with the goal of examining individuals' place in society. In the curriculum this is called the Universe of Obligation (from the Facing History and Ourselves curriculum).

Take a look at a slide show of our students as they reveal why they are here.
